What is CBD?

Cannabidiol, or CBD, is a cannabinoid found in species of Cannabis such as Marijuana and Hemp. Nature’s Rhythm CBD products are made from Industrial Hemp that is high in CBD and low in THC (below 0.3%). Cannabinoids are continuously being studied for their impact on the human body.

Cannabinoids

Cannabis contains naturally occurring compounds called Cannabinoids. A cannabinoid is a chemical compound that acts on cannabinoid receptors, called CB1 and CB2, found in the human body. These receptors are part of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS).

Named after the Cannabis plant which led to its discovery, the ECS plays a vital role in keeping you healthy and providing internal stability, or homeostasis. Within the human body, cannabinoids are produced naturally. These are called endocannabinoids.

The cannabinoids found in plants are called phytocannabinoids. Artificially manufactured cannabinoids are called synthetic cannabinoids.

CBD vs. THC

Of the many cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, the two most notable cannabinoids are tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis, and Cannabidiol (CBD) which is known to have no psychoactive effects.

Marijuana vs Hemp

Marijuana is most often used to describe a species of cannabis that is high in THC, the psychoactive cannabinoid that gives people a “high”.

Hemp is another species of cannabis that is naturally low in THC, and is being bred to contain higher amounts of CBD. Hemp products, such as fibers and oils, have been legal to purchase and sell in all 50 States since their creation, as they contain very, very low levels of THC, and therefore do not give users a “high” commonly associated with Marijuana.

Full Spectrum Extracts – The Entourage Effect

When it comes to cannabis, there are some 500 different compounds in cannabis. Some studies suggest that these compounds all work together to improve the effectiveness of CBD.

This phenomenon is called the Entourage Effect. To just take one chemical out of cannabis and make a product doesn’t provide you with the benefits of all the other compounds that can be extracted from whole floral plant material. It’s not unlike taking a Vitamin C tablet, versus eating broccoli.

Both are high in Vitamin C, but by eating broccoli you are getting other vitamins, minerals, dietary fibers, and sugars, that help your body utilize the Vitamin C more effectively. Nature’s Rhythm CBD products are made from full-spectrum, whole floral hemp.

We conduct third-party, independent testing to give you confidence that the products you use are providing you with the best quality and effectiveness.

Industrial Hemp

Hemp is a plant that is raised for use in industrial products such as clothing, construction materials, topicals, edibles, and oils.

While hemp products have never been illegal in the United States, growing hemp has been. For products sold in the US, Hemp has traditionally been sourced from other countries such as Canada and Europe.

With the passing of the 2014 Federal Farm Bill, the practice of growing Industrial Hemp under state-run pilot programs became legal. Nature’s Rhythm CBD products are made from Industrial Hemp grown in Central Kentucky under the 2014 Federal Farm Bill, and the Kentucky Department of Agriculture Industrial Hemp Research Pilot Project.

CBD products derived from Hemp, rather than medical marijuana, make for a safer, less controversial alternative while offering similar health benefits. It also makes the product legal to buy, sell and consume in all 50 States.

What to ask about CBD products

Once you’ve done your research and have decided to try CBD, there are certain questions you should ask before buying any CBD product. Because CBD is considered a supplement and not a drug, it is not currently regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for efficacy and contents in the same way foods and medicines are. Therefore, some good questions to ask from your CBD provider are as follows.

  1. Where is the Hemp grown?

Many supplements have traditionally used hemp from other countries, with little verification of the agricultural practices used. You have the right to know where the hemp is grown, how it’s grown, and what happens to it once it’s harvested. Hemp is a bio-accumulator; a plant species that absorb toxic substances from the soil, which is another reason to find out where the Hemp is grown.

Nature’s Rhythm CBD Products use hemp that is grown in Central Kentucky, where the combination of climate and soil are ideal for growing this plant. Hemp production in Kentucky actually dates back to 1775.

It is sustainably grown without the use of pesticides. The plant is not processed until the Kentucky Department of Agriculture Industrial Hemp Pilot Program verifies that the material meets the requirements for THC content (less than 0.3%).

  1. How is the Hemp processed?

Knowing what processes are used to extract compounds from the plant material is also important. Many extraction methods use harsh toxic solvents, such as hexane, butane, or propane.

These solvents often extract heavy metals absorbed by the plant from the soil. If you are looking to purchase CBD products, research the extraction method.

Nature’s Rhythm CBD processes material using food-grade organic alcohol to extract all the cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids for optimal absorption of CBD by the body. By the end of the process, the alcohol is separated from the end product and reclaimed through evaporation.

  1. How much CBD is in the product?

Although CBD oil has not gained full approval yet from the FDA, make sure to choose products that are tried and tested as safe and effective. CBD product labels should provide details on the quantity of both CBD and THC.

CBD derived from Hemp can contain no more than 0.3% THC by law. You can and should ask for third-party, independent testing results to confirm that the product contains the amount of CBD that is advertised.

Nature’s Rhythm CBD products such as our edibles, extracts, and topicals, contain various concentrations of CBD and are labeled accordingly, and meet federal standards for trace amounts of THC. A typical industry-wide concentration to start with is 10mg, once or twice a day for an adult.

  1. What else is in the product?

Compounds in cannabis are fat-soluble and are often packaged in natural fats or oils, such as hemp seed oil, coconut oil, MCT oil, olive oil, or grapeseed oil.

The fat acts as a carrier for the CBD and allows the body to break down and absorb the compounds. The products should also be free from harmful elements such as mold, pesticides, bacteria, and solvent residues. Asking for the third-party, independent test results is your right and responsibility as a consumer.

Nature’s Rhythm CBD Products are packaged in MCT oil, and we will provide third-party, independent testing to verify the purity of our products on request.
